The Green Devils...

Text Box: FJ Trooper (Winter—All Fronts)

The FJ troops have to contend with the cold, just like the Army, but were slightly better prepared for it then some others.

FJ Trooper winter uniform

· Winter Coat—Reversible (Plain or Quilted)

· Winter Pants-Reversible (Plain or Quilted)

· ID arm-band (various colors)

· Winter Boots (felt or fur lined)

· Wool Bergmutze or M43 cap.

· Winter Gloves with inserts (Trigger Gloves)

The pictured trooper is ready to move out into the winter during the 43-44 winter in Russia. He is not wearing his winter pants, just his FJ issued Jump Trousers. His is wearing the reversible White/Gray winter coat, felt lined boots, and all his other usual equipment. The canvas straps are for the man-pack radio he is carrying to conduct direction of close air support attacks by the LW against Russian targets in support of Heer ground operations. He is carrying a throat mike and head sets to leave his hands as free as possible. Also note the Snow Goggles attached to his 43 Winter Cap, to reduce the effects of snow-blindness.

The Officer (below) is pictured in typical White Out Winter equipment. Not the bands of cloth attached to his arms, these were different colors on different days used to identify friend from foe (hard to do if everyone is wearing white!)
